Snow thrower won't start

Hey guys;
My brother has an Airens model 921030 2-stage snow thrower. It's about 5 years old. This machine has had issues with starting in the past, and a couple days ago when we had a light snowfall, he was unable to start it. I checked it out, but could not get it running. Here is what I know:

The spark plug was wet - so I am assuming the engine was flooded from the multiple starting attempts
There is a spark. I pulled the plug out, and was able to observe a spark when the engine was cranked using the electric starter
The spark plug looks OK. There doesn't appear to be any carbon buildup, and I didn't see any cracks. The plug was replaced 1 or 2 years ago.

The gas in the tank is very old. Probably 4-1/2 years old. I had added Stabil to the gas, and applied a tag to the can. That tag reads 7/15, indicating I added the Stabil in July 2015.

I am fairly certain that the machine started and ran OK in early November. Could already stale gas go completely bad in only 2-1/2 months?

I left the spark plug out in hopes the engine would dry out in a week or so, then plan to return and replace the gas with a fresh tank.

One thing I am unsure about is whether I will be able to get my siphon into the tank, as it has a plastic guard which will prevent my hose from being dropped into the tank. The siphon is the one that has the metal valve at the end: How difficult is it to remove the plastic guard?

I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks
FW

Hi everyone! My name is Travis and I live in Texas.
I'm 16 and enjoy working on lawnmowers and small engine powered equipment. I know a little bit about Briggs flatheads, older Kawasaki engines and Tecumseh here and there.
Look forward to learning!

I am getting better at repairing mowers and such that have been sitting for a while. I have gotten quite a collection lately. I like to buy my parts online. On a few of my projects I need carb bowl "0" rings. My question is must I identify each motor and order the part or can I buy a "variety pack"? Thanks

Throttle plate block short circuit

I put a new throttle plate on my Snapper 281223bve RER. Throttle works fine, chokes, revs from sfast to slow, but wont stop at low throttle. I got some zip tie thing with the throttle plate that I didn’t know what it was for. I’m thinking I hooked up the wires wrong. The cut off that wires sets in a square recess but moving the throttle no metal comes into contact with it. Anyone got a picture how this supposed to work?

Early-curbed a Chinese Lawn Devil mower a while back-thought I'd use it for parts. Justg for grins, does anyone know where I could get parts? Need the height adjustment parts-front and rear. It's a self-propelled rear drive. The Chinese-clone Honda runs good and starts the first pull.

The only sticker I found is Zhejiang Dobest Power Tools dated 12/2013

Contrary to popular beliefs and reports no I aint dead. Just been preoccupied. Put 5 deer in the freezer doing the processing by myself. Deer huntin season is over. Now it's time to get the mowers ready for spring. The simplicity and john deere both need a new battery and a front left tire. The little self propell craftsman will need the carb cleaned. Guess I'll get on my cussin shoes and work on it first.Been raining here for the last two days and looks like more coming. May have to work on the boat instead of the mowers.

It's a "Craftsman" 7 HP, H60 to The best I can tell, on a generator.
The model number is rusted away.
I replaced the Points and Condenser with a Stens ignition module, hooked it up according to the instructions and mounted it, I have spark now, but it is weak, it will not jump a gap. I also bought a new ignition coil, still won't jump a gap, I tried un hooking the module ground wire and the coil/magneto ground wire, still sparking but won't jump a gap.
Whaddya think?

Hello everyone!

My name is Paul and I have been mowing grass since the age of 11 when I asked my dad if I could do it. There were a few stump and rock strikes in the beginning and I didn't have clue what striping was but my dad was patient and let me figure it out. I think he hated mowing and was so happy the day I volunteered!

During college summers I worked at a golf course and had a blast. In year #1 my job was trimming around all the trees, bunkers and rocks and push mowing the pond banks. By year #4 I was reel mowing the rough with a 72" wide National reel mower and the tees with a Jacobsen Greens King IV(?) reel mower. That was a great job with nice, helpful employees and I'll never forget it

30 years later I still enjoy lawn mowing ans snow removal. Have never paid anyone to do it. Its a great way to relieve stress and as long as I am physically able it will never end.

Here's a few videos of me in action:

tried a Stander before the Snapper but it wasnt for me

Engine Redlines / Revs out of Control!

I've got a Scotts's L2048, which is really just a John Deere painted orange. It has a 2 cylinder Briggs Indek mower.
I pulled it out of the barn to use it the other day and noticed a tire needed air. So I backed in and shut it down. I aired up the tires and got back on.
When I started it back up it revved out of control to the point I thought the engine would blow. I shut it down and checked the cables, linkage and springs.
Nothing had slipped and everything looked to be where it should. Started it back up and same thing. Any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks,
Rick

1970 Sears Custom 8XL (New Addition)

Put the new truck to use today again and found this custom with deck and plow.

I think the deck is magnesium.

the plow...

And it came with all the manuals!

This was originally owned by a fellow in PA but was brought down here to the sunshine state where I have now acquired it. It will need a little TLC but overall a fairly complete machine.
Not sure if they are the originals or replaced at some point but all the tires appear to be originals or NOS at some point as they are all branded Sears and are in unusually great condition.

Don't expect to see anything happen fast.... LOL, just lining up the retirement projects
