OK, I am at wits end with this 14.5 HP OHV B&S I/C engine on my Toro Hydro HXL-14/38. It will not run well at all at anything other than half choked. I have assured full fuel flow, adjusted the valves @ .005,adjusted coil gap @.010,new spark plug, replaced bad head gasket(unrelated, but knew it was due), had the carb off several times and I really know how to clean a carb with a tiny wire,2+2 cleaner, and compressed air with EVERY jet & screw removed. This thing was never allowed to gum up anyway. Gas tank is clean as new.
The carb says WALBRO ,5-4993 and a #37 on it which I suppose means its a 37mm throat??
The mower will surge heavily, and backfire when throttle is put on anything other than half choke. ?
