I've got a pretty major rebuild going on a 1990 JD170 lawn tractor that has been hack jobbed from stem to stern. This is the link to the original thread pertaining to the rest of the project and just a general gripe http://www.mylawnmowerforum.com/foru...tml#post372657
Here is the problem I'm having as it would relate to this category.
Some were along the line some one has tried to convert this tractor over to a 16hp Briggs from an original 14hp kawasaki. I've had to give it a new stator, Reg/rec, and carb. The replacement carb. is a NIKKI model, but I'm ok with that as long as it works. I've got this think to start ok. It runs fairly well and idles pretty smoothly. The issue that's bothering me is that the end of the exhaust is red hot and I've got some combustion still happening in the muffler. I'm currently waiting on it to cool back down in my heavily air conditioned garage so I can recheck the valve clearances. Any advice would be appriciated.
Basic info recap.
Briggs 16hp model : 310707 Type: 0136-E7 Code:000818ZE
New Stator, New Reg/Rec, New plug, New air filter, New 10W30
