More scrap finds! Capstan finally talked me into saving this one.. it is BEAT. I'm thinking it was straight gassed. Crank still turns but the piston is stuck and won't move for anything. Deck has it's share of holes. One idler pulley is toast. Pity, too. I always wanted a mower of this type. Maybe it's just me, but I find that despite the age, my 3002 looks NEWER then, say, my 8453 Commercial. Maybe the recoil throws me off. It has 3 of the 4 original wheels. A perfectly smooth shroud, and a uncracked air filter tough.. gonna fuss with it today and see if I can do anything more.. It's a D-400 series engine. In the worst case, part it out I guess.. However a thought struck me. If the internals aren't completely destroyed, do you think the deck would hold up to another engine? I think this was one of the last D's in the yard.. unless there's one buried under a pile I don't see.I also found the original drive rod.. CUT IN HALF!? :soap: I'll have to get some better pictures of it..
