Hi folks. I'm curious to know your opinion on this. I have a 2000-2001ish Model 917.377543 Craftsman walk behind 6.5HP Techumesh (or however it is spelled) powered 22" rear discharge power propelled (front drive) rotary mower (though the front drive axle is snapped in 2 places so there IS no power propelled <sigh>) This is my old mower and for the most part aside from the drive shaft/axle breaking for the front wheels, as well as oil coming out of the air intake, which I am told is because the engine seals are worn out and the motor overheated, which I find hard to believe given the fact that I have cared for this mower so well.. its been a decent machine. I just did major maintenance on the thing and it is time to replace the oil. The issue? The past 2 years I am unable to find anymore SAE30 motor oil at the auto parts stores! What gives?? It says that SAE30 is what is reccomended for this engine and given that we get fairly hot here in the summertime, I should not be using 5W30. Last year I ended up using 15W40 and I am unsure as to what to use this year.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
I'm getting it fixed up and cleaned up to use for maybe another year or to just see what I can get for it off of craigs list since I now have a good trustworthy John Deere JX75.
