I'm located in the middle of France, though I do spend winters in California. Some years ago, an English neighbor who was moving away gave me his old riding mower, which I'd been maintaining and servicing for some time--perhaps it's an American prejudice, but the English are somewhat clueless about preventive maintenance. Though it was sold in Europe as a Granja, it's a Murray G1305. It has served me pretty well, but when the quill assembly broke, a replacement cost me 100 euros here. When I returned to the USA, I found one for $15, and (luckily, it turns out) decided to buy one to bring back to France--when the other quill broke, this summer, I felt somewhat smug having a spare....
Spare parts here are, clearly, an issue. The old Murray/Granja is decrepit, I just had to cobble together a plate to hold up the deck, since the deck rusted out where the lift bracket attached (note to self: be more compulsive about cleaning under the deck next time)...
I have searched a bit for a replacement here in France. Although McCulloch and Husqvarna do sell here, the models seem quite different from those sold in the USA. One Husky model which seems it would be appropriate to my needs (less than an acre of "lawn", really just a mown pasture) is sold here as CTH 174. Although HUSQVARNA CTH 174 - Tracteurs de pelouse is in French, it's pretty clear what the specs are. Does anyone have any opinions about a similar model sold in the USA--or any other ideas about other possibilities?
