I've got an old early 80's Snapper rear engine 30" rider....no blade brake pedals or any other "safety" features that I know of. I'm told it's an old Comet so I've been researching everything I can about this model.
Last fall during my last mow of the season, my engine quit suddenly. I sat there, pushed the throttle setting to a slower setting and hit the starter button and it started right up. It happened again about 20 mins later so I got off and wiggled the throttle cable and noticed it seemed loose on the end on by the carb. I tightened a little set screw holding the cable end tube steady and thought I had it fixed. It did start again, but died again a few mins later as I was finished mowing, so I parked it covered for the winter.
Now that spring is coming soon, I need to get this quirk fixed. Today, I found on a Sears repair parts site something about this engine having a magneto shorting block, but not sure what the heck that is. The little diagram I printed out looks like my engine and throttle area, but I can't tell from the diagram just where the cable is attached, but seems to have a wire attached to that area too. Do you guys think that wire by the carb is causing my issues? Where does than wire come from? I have a keyed tumbler on the handle bars but i've never messed with any wiring on this mower. All I've done is keep the blade sharp, oil changed, chassis lubed and use fresh gas. The engine seems to be the original 8 hp Briggs, with elec start of course.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
