Reader's Digest version - 1987 Snapper 21" walk-behind B/S Max 3.5 HP. 2 years ago, trying to dig out a broken bolt (holds fuel tank to case), I "ventilated" the case while trying to easy-out the broken off bolt - drilled a hole into the case, end of that engine.
I found a new in the box made in 1990 B/S Max 3.5, almost identical, perfect fit, especially where the back of the engine almost touches the plastic chute for the clipping, and ran like new for a while. This year, the engine was cutting out when hot, so I replaced the magneto & that is better now. Then the other day, filled the fuel tank & fuel was leaking out of the top. So I transplanted the fuel tank from the "ventilated" engine carcass, and back in business - used it last night & again today, all is OK.
So - just coincidence, a magneto that goes flaky and a fuel tank that leaks near the top when full? I am thinking maybe 25 years, sitting somewhere, in the box took its toll.
Has anyone else had experience buying a new relic of an engine & how did it go?
