Need help to diagnose problem

Hello all. Please bear with me if my description becomes long winded. I want to mention as many symptoms as I can remember?

I have a Cub Cadet LTX 1146 KW built in 2013. When it was delivered it wouldn't start. The mechanic went to the shop and got a new starter/solenoid. I think they are all in one? It was the solenoid that was not engaging I think. The new unit fixed the problem.

6 months later it began to quit when hot. It took a lot to get it hot. It would restart and run after a partial cool down. The mechanic said it could be the solenoid under the float bowl. I observed it to be close to the muffler and exhaust manifolds. I built myself a sheet metal heat shield and installed it between the muffler and the carburetor. I also added some clear gas line and a filter so I can see if the gas is moving at all. This solved the problem. The carb and solenoid did not heat up and shut off anymore.

I have had it over 2 years now and the warranty is over. Just recently it began to shut off when hot again. First time it took over an hour. Then the interval became shorter and shorter. Now it will barely run for 5 minutes before shutting down. It acts like a fuel starvation issue. There is some intermittent missing just before shut down. It acts as if you were burning the last of the gas in the bowl and dies when it is all gone. I understand the fuel solenoid does not work like that. It is just a way to describe what is happening. The machine has 85 hours on it.

I am told this solenoid prevents backfiring when shutting down. If I was sure replacing it would fix the problem I would buy and install it. They are expensive and I don't want to go there if I don't have to.

Problem 2

The starter solenoid just failed to engage. I tapped things a bit but it did not help. I boosted it with the car so it would receive 13.5 volts but it did not start. The mower won't bump start. After twisting the key many times it finally started. After shutdown it failed again. The third time 5 or 6 key twists found engagement, but I am worried this will become common and permanent.

If people feel I should be buying some new solenoids etc. - where do you like to get them? The dealer is asking more than I want to spend.

Thank you for reading my essay. Cheers
