I am having a problem with my craftsman lawn tractor starting. Here are the specs
18.5 HP, 42" cut.
Model 917.274641
Engine: 31P777
Type: 0348E1
It was running great at the begining of the season, started strong and ran strong. Then 2 weekends ago my father-in-law was using it and afterwards I can't start it. I did put a canopy on it that weekend. After it was ran I drove it and it was reving high and then low almost like it was going to die. I was able to park it and then it never started again.
I have put new gas in it, replaced spark plug, added oil, verified that there is spark, adjusted the valves to be .004" gap, and cleaned the carburetor. I just charged the battery and am going to attach this evening, when i turn the key i can hear the solenoid engaging, also changed the V belt.
I can spray starter into the air intake and get it to start for about 3 - 5 seconds but it will not stay on. I have a feeling that gas is not being fed past the carb, but do not no how to test this theory.
any suggestions on where to go from here. I am not very versed on the engines or how they operate, and have only done things that I found on youtube to try and fix.
