Troy-bilt Trimmer

I have looked at previous answers for others on similar problems such as mine but mine is a sort of what am I doing wrong.
Some Background:
I have a Troy-bilt trimmer with the 4 cycle engine. Almost without fail, each spring when I first fire it up, it will run for a few minutes, shut down and refuse to start.
I'm presently on my 4th carburator. The first time my problem started several years ago, I was probably lax on running it until empty after the last fall use. The last two years though, I have run it until emptly, then put a little stabilizer in the tank and pulled it through the carburator. The following spring, guess what, run, shut down, and no start.
This past fall I took it one step further. I drained the carb, pulled stabilizer through it, then removed the carburator and actually brought it into the house, where it sat sealed in a freezer bag until spring. Yesterday, it was the same problem.
Right now, I'm on the verge of just dumping the trimmer and buy another that will fit all the attachments I already have.
OH, BTW, I actually took it to a local repair shop yesterday to get someone elses opinion on the problem. I was told it was probably the carb and he also suggested that I should probably dump the TB as he wasn't a big fan of them anyway.
Thanks
Bob
