Holes! Holes! Holes!

Hello!

Troy-Bilt Riding Mower, 13AN77TG766, Pony acquired from a neighbor who didn't want.

Deck linkages were all rusted up, so I got them loose where they slide now. Installed back in the mower, ran around the yard for an hour or so, and the belt slipped off several times.

Can't see that this model has any belt tensioner device and mower was parked outside for several years, so I am replacing the belt. Questions:

1. There are about 30 holes in this deck that aren't being used (!) Is that right for this model? It just seems crazy excessive. Is there anything missing that should be installed (I know about the two pulley covers with six bolts)?

2. If you look where the silver screw is, I removed one pulley and there are two holes joined to each other (like a figure eight). Is it supposed to look like that, or is that wear damage. If that's the way it looks, which hole of the two is the pulley supposed to go through?

3. I put a "placeholder spring" where I have the PTO spring going. Is that the right hole? (There are several holes around there, but I'm thinking that's the one. The instructions I found everywhere just say "install spring", but don't really show which of the holes do that with. Same thing for the back supports. No pictures, just "install supports". (I'm sure I got those, too, but a picture would really be nice.)

I appreciate everyone's help. Hopefully, this will fix it so the belt stays on there.

Regards,
leaning
