Hey everybody!
This i my first post as I wander the world of mower/LB culture for the first time. I have years of hobbyist level motorcycle/automotive repair experience and thought it would be fun to have a 100% two-stroke shed. Upon getting the LB running well I will ditch the Honda mower.
I recently picked up a non-running LB 10424 (year 2000). It is not really that clean but looks pretty good and was said to have a bad coil. A little research confirmed that the coil is a weak point in these engines.
I plan to get a new brake/bail cable, coil, blade, and bits and bobs and just have fun with the sounds and smells.
To get familiar with how it all works and I did an engine removal. One thing seemed odd. When I removed the below-deck muffler cover (four bolt plate), a few ounces of fuel came pouring out. Everything seemed intact and in decent shape. Why would fuel be collecting in this area? Another thing that looked odd was a bead of black RTV that had been applied around this exhaust cover. It looks professionally applied, but still why?
I'm at a point where I need to begin ordering parts but if this fuel in the exhaust indicates a trashed engine I may need to reevaluate my options.
Thanks!
