Hello folks,
I've poked around on this and various other forums before. Austen has helped with some information on my Jacobsen.
Here are a few picks of my "Collection".
Signed up to the forum as I'm really struggling with the decision as to what to do with them. I have a ton of projects in various states of completion and as such, none are getting finished. Four motorcycles of various ages in various states of completion. An old Penn Yan wood runabout that needs a ton of work. We're remodeling our house. A 1967 Land Rover 109 that I hope to be able to use on a regular basis. And my 50-ish year old chassis could use some exercise, etc etc etc. And I'm tripping over these old lawn mowers as well. Right now I'm using a B&D rechargeable mulching deck mower. :bag:
I collected these because I really wanted an older Reel mower for the yard. Found the first one but it had a broken carb. Then I stumbled on the Jacobson at a roadside junk shop. And finally added the last one seeing it on the curb with a for sale sign. It runs and cuts but is a bit hard to maneuver in the yard. Neighbor moved out and was going to throw away his old Craftsman push mower so I took that. I've got another random push mower I "Saved" and lastly an old push mower that was my great uncle's. I'm thinking some or all need to go. Christ, I'm almost at the point of giving the boat away just because of the space it takes up.
We landscaped our yard a few years ago and ended up with a pretty small patch of lawn. Small and curved enough that I'm not sure it's really even possible to use any of these. I love the look of the Jacobson, so I guess if there is one I'd keep it's that one. That and the family push mower.
Didn't mean for this to sound like a whine fest, I just love these old machines and hate to see them end up in a land fill but I also can't keep tripping over all this stuff. It's no fun having them if I can't use them and/or don't have time/space to work on them.
At this point I haven't dug through all of the forum but is there a section where people discuss the process of restoration/preservation? Personally, I seem to do well when I can get through projects in one push. but when I have to do a bit on this and then a bit on that I just end up with boxes of parts. That's one of the reasons I haven't done anything to the mowers. I don't want to get it apart and then loose bits because I can't get back to it.
Anyway, here are a few pictures. Again, my apologies for rambling.
All the best
