I currently cut my 1/2 acre yard with a 21" Honda self propelled lawn mower.
The Honda starts easily and cuts well. But my yard is hilly and it seems to take forever to cut with this size mower.
I like walk behind mowers. And I think my yard would be too steep for a riding mower. I would like to get something bigger than the 21" with out getting into a commercial mower due to price.
Some mowers I am considering:
The Cub Cadet 33" . It has a powerful 420 cc engine. It seems like it would be perfect except it is more than I wanted to spend at $1,300.
Toro Time Master 30". Better price at $1,000. But is a 190cc engine big enough for a 30" cut?
Cub Cadet 28" . It is around $900. The engine is 195cc, practically the same size as the Toro Time Master. The cut is slightly smaller by 2".
Note: I see some 22" lawn mowers with 190cc engines, so I wonder are the engines on the Toro 30" and Cub Cadet 28" big enough to power the bigger blades? Of course they can play around with settings and get more horsepower and torque out of the same engine. But is that putting to much stress on them?
Sears has a Craftsman 28". It has a 9.5 horse power 223 cc engine. At $ 800 it seems like a good deal. However I am leery of Craftsman mowers. The last one I bought 17 years ago was a lemon. But I was told it had a Tecumseh Engine and that those engines of that era were all bad. Does any one know who makes this mower for Sears?
And lastly the Troy-Bilt Flex. The power unit would cost $300 and would be a 208 cc motor. The mowing unit would be another $500 for a total of $800.
