The future of electric lawn mowers?

I like electric equipment over gas.

Electric is quitter. And for equipment that you don't use very often it seems to start more reliably.

Of course there are major downsides to electric equipment.

It seems like you can never get electric equipment that is as powerful as gas. And you are limited by either the cord, or the amount of time a battery will last.

I don't have much experience with electric mowers. They seem to be limited to around 21" mowers at the biggest. I don't know how big a yard you can mow with one charge on an electric. Plus there seem to be only a few electrics that are self propelled mowers. my yard is very hilly. It is a bear to push a mower up the hill with out the self propelled.

But it seems battery technology is getting much better. This seems to be pushed by the development of electric and hybrid cars.

My dream electric mower would have about a 30" blade. It would be self propelled. It would cut very well. And would have enough of a charge to mow at least one acre.

Many people due to the size of their yards would need something bigger that they could ride.

Does any one know of any long term plans for bigger and better electric lawn mowers?
