JD LX277 grease point question

My steering wheel on LX277 is binding and I'm trying to find a way to grease a couple of parts. Despite what the manual and other web sites say, there is no grease fitting on the cast iron front axle pivot nor is there any obvious way to lub the steering column. Aside from just smearing grease on them and hoping it will seep in, is there any better way to lub these?
