I just picked up Honda HT3813 from Western Mass. in Craigslist. I was looking for a project mower which I can work together with my twin boys. (14 years old) This is a relatively small engine (13 HP) but it is liquid cooled engine with direct automatic drive. It is almost like a little car. I also picked up 1989 John Deere 180 but I will not post John Deere here.
This was a project for the seller but he did not have time or space to finish the work. According to the seller, this mower was in the barn for 5 years and mice chewed timing belt and he plan was to change the timing belt and see what else was needed. He bought the timing belt but never finished the job and I got Honda in the middle of timing belt change. As you can see from the pics that a lot of parts were disassembled to get to the timing belt.
The first thing I did was ordered the service manual from Honda and I just got it yesterday. I glanced through most of the pages in the manual and it appears it had all the info I need.
Next day, I try to check PTO clutch and the direct drive was engaged as directed. It appears that it in good working condition.
I disconnected the gas line and drain the gas. It appears fairly good for 5-year-old gas.
I try to test if the electric fuel pump is working condition by supplying 12 volt to pump but I did not get any response from the pump. I am not sure it operates on 12 volt but I need to figure out how I can test the fuel pump.
The following day, I completed the timing belt change but flywheel nut will not go on drive shaft correctly. The drive shaft threads were damaged when previously owner try to take the flywheel off. I fixed the thread by filing down the damaged threads and using hack saw blade. The nut will go on backward but I still can not make it go on the correct side of nut. I think the nut was also damaged. I just order new flywheel nut.
I am having problem posting pics. I will post some pics. later.
