I preformed an oil change on my Kohler 18hp Courage powered Cub Cadet after 5 hours per the instruction manual. I drained the oil, replaced the oil filter after priming it, and used the rest of the oil up to 1.6 quarts (I measured the 1.6 quarts to include the filter priming). It showed a little high though on the dipstick, but figured it would maybe go down after a little use.
Today, I pulled the mower out front to hit the lawn, and decided to check the oil. The motor was running, and when I pulled the dipstick tube, I was sprayed by warm oil that went pretty much EVERYWHERE.
So am I an idiot because my oil is way overfilled and that's why it sprayed out?
OR
Am I an idiot because with these kinds of engines, you can't pull the dipstick to check the oil unless the motor is off or it's going to spray you with oil no matter what.
I'm a small engine idiot by the way.
