My previous Lawn Boys had On/Off switches that, I assumed, when ON, completed the circuit from the Ignition Coil output connector to ground, activating the spark to the plug.
My current Lawn Boy(see above) has the safety Bale Handle that must be held down to start and use the mower and stops the engine and brakes the blade when the bale is released.
This mower would not start or show any spark to plug even after replacing the ignition coil with one known to be good.
Only after I made a simple switch to complete the circuit from coil to ground did it generate a spark and run. Disconnected and bypassing the safety switch, but with Bale tied down to release the brake.
I have examined the safety switch and can see no way it can make a ground connection.
I have read several postings about Lawn Boy's with Bale Handle. They all have said "When Bale down for starting, the ground is open", "When the Bale is released, the Coil is grounded, stopping the engine"
Am I miss-reading something, or is my safety switch faulty?
Can anyone explain? Thanks for any help.
