I just rebuilt my Toro personal pace rear wheel mower transmission (#20017)
When I took the OLD tranny apart (4 bolt cover). What I found was a worn-out worm gear and black sludge. I think it was caked oil. I had to pick it out with a screwdriver over a barrel.
My Questions.
1. What should I see when if I remove the cover of a new personal pace lawn mower transmission?
2. If its oil, what weight is it? Gear oil? 60W?
3. Should I change it once a season? Is there a procedure somewhere?
4. How do I change it? Place the lawn mower upside down and remove the cover? Is there a cover gasket? Will the cover leak after I reinstall with new oil? (A small oil tight cover plug would be nice).
