Lawn Boy 10323 Coil FYI

New to the forums, new to lawn boy, but pretty well versed in 2 strokes.

My new to me lawn boy had weak spark. Surprisingly, it would start and run fine. Since i am into preventative maintenance, i set about replacing the coil. When i saw LB wanted over 60 bucks for the coil, i started looking at aftermarket units. I popped for a popular aftermarket unit off of Amazon for 20 dollars.

It came in and i installed it with a bunch of other stuff...... Started the mower and it idled fine, the motor would not rev out. I opened the gov using my finger and the motor would just fall on its face, kinda like it was too rich or something.

Well, i pulled the carb off and set about cleaning it again. I found some water and debris in there, i guess i forgot to clean the gas tank really well and chocked it up to this.

Installed the carb with a clean tank and fresh gas and it did the same thing. Started good, idled fine, would not rev out at full throttle. I hand operated the governor again the the motor just flopped.....

So, then i pulled the recoil starter and replaced the only other part that i installed, the new coil. I put the old unit back on and installed the recoil starter again ( stripping out one of the darn bolt holes on the back Grrrr) and tried again.

This time, the unit started fine, even with weak spark, and would rev out completely. I called up the guys that sell the units. They never heard of such a thing, but i got my money back..... SO, for anyone chasing their tail on these sorts of issues, dont hesitate to suspect your aftermarket coil.

For me, i guess i will go ahead and pony up 60 bucks and call it a lesson.
