The kill wire, along with a lot of other wiring, on the Briggs twin I just got running was cut by someone. When I tried hooking it back up, the engine sputtered and backfired. I did it while the engine was running in an effort to stop the engine which, once started, refused to shut off. I only had it hooked up for a few a second or two.
After choking the engine down (hand over carb method) I realized the fuel shutoff on the carb had been hacked and I replaced it and wired it directly to pole A2 on my ignition switch. Now the engine shuts down with a short delay after the fuel runs dry in the carb bowl.
Question is will it hurt anything to leave the kill wire disconnected until I can find a replacement? There are two IN007 diodes in the kill wire harness. One is bad. I assume these are to keep the coils from grounding out through each other but I don't know for sure if they serve any other purpose.
This is my first V Twin and I really like it so I would hate to mess it up. I would be grateful for any input.
