Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. A friend referred me here and told me if anyone could help it would be you guys so I appreciate any assistance you can give me.
My mom recently gave me this Huskee mower with a B&S 446777 engine and said it had been parked for about 7 years and she had only used it 2 or 3. When she parked it she said the starter was going out on it. I've since taken it apart, replaced the solenoid, starter, spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, cleaned up the fuel tank, and did an oil change. Once the new starter was on, I tried to crank it and the flywheel turned about 5 or 6 times without a problem but it wouldn't start. So I gave it a second and since that first crank when I turn the key, starter will engage the flywheel but the flywheel will only turn about half an inch before it stops. Not wanting to burn up the starter, I have tried limited re-engagements. I spoke with a buddy who said it sounded like a valve problem. So, with advice from him along with some how-tos online, I adjusted the valves to manufacturer specifications and it has not made a difference. I can turn the flywheel by hand and it's not terribly difficult but it does require some muscle. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what may be wrong and what to try next. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
