Could use some help. I have a Sabre 2554HV lawn tractor. 15years old. recently the steering gear wore out. I know the parts that I will need to replace it, but I cannot get the steering wheel off of the mower. I am thinking that once I get the steering wheel off the column the entire shaft will drop through the bottom and I can just replace the bushing and steering gear that works the larger wedge shaped steering gear. Can anyone tell me how to get the steering wheel off? I have removed the bolt that goes through the bottom of the steering wheel and column, and it does not look like they have a piece that pops off the top of the steering wheel where a nut would normally be going straight into the column. Before I start cranking on this thing and break something else I wanted to know if I was missing something. I hate to break down and bring it in for service, when I know I can fix the darn thing. Anyone run into this problem or have advice, I would really appreciate it. I can send pics if needed. Thanks in advance.
