Sorry for lengthy post, just want to make sure I give all info. I got this Craftsman mid-engine rider with a Briggs 13.5hp. My father used it but he filled the oil up to the top of the filler neck. So when he got done it sat for awhile and wanted me to get it going again. So I drained the oil and noticed the oil was way too much. I pulled the plug and oil came out the cylinder after I already drained the oil. So I let it drain awhile. I put the correct type oil and amount in, changed the plug, cleaned/replaced the air filter, fuel filter. Then the battery cables were chewed so I replaced those, got a new battery. I went to start it, and it cranks and then stops and there's a whinning noise from the starter or solenoid, I can't pinpoint it. If you turn the flywheel cover by hand it turns freely a couple of times and then hits a hard spot and you have to use two hands. Once I do that and hit the key it will again crank and then stop and whine again. So I'm thinking a bad starter or more likely a bent rod? Any ideas on how I can pinpoint for sure before I tear it apart or replace it? The mower hasn't even been used much. I still dont think it's worth buying a new engine for. How hard is it to replace just the rod? I've done a big block Chrysler engine before. What's my options?
