The Jacobsen Trio (Photo Heavy)

was contacted a couple weeks ago by a fellow looking to offload his family's vintage Jacobsen Estate mower with sulky.

The story of it is very similar to the one of my '47 Lawn King, in fact it felt like deja vu when I picked it up. A family had used it a long time ago during its a hay day then eventually stored it away for many years. The gentleman remembered using it as a kid and how fast it was. The mower had been at his families home where I picked it up, but they weren't living in it anymore. Not that little bit matters, but the circumstances are nearly identical to that of my Lawn King. It sounds like the family is actually the second owner. They originally had a Jacobsen Manor prior to this one but then purchased the Estate used at a lawnmower shop when it was a few years old.

I used the Jacobsen serial number look up site to date it and it states that it's either a 1953 or 1957. I don't know why the site is pulling up two different years, but apparently there are two different "R.W" Estate versions sharing the same prefix. I've never had the site pull up separate years before. If I had a guess, it would be a '57 due to others I've seen which were the same year but that's not always a good indication either.

It is in good original "stiff" condition. It may not be as well preserved in some ways as my Lawn King- ;) but it's definitely all there and unmolested which I like to see. The rubber rollers are in nice condition with good tread which is a good indication. It also has a glass sediment bowl on the carb which I have never seen before on a vintage Jake 2 cycle. Part of me wants to steal that for one of my others but not going to that. :p

My friend Eric who is another local collector will be claiming the mower and I'll be keeping the original Jake sulky for my Lawn King. I'm not going to restore the sulky like I did with the Eclipse one several years ago. This one still has patina vs the Eclipse unit which was just nasty to begin with and did not match the preserved state of the Speedway in any way shape or form.

The clan! :)

My babe!! :2th:

She's a virgin just like the Speedway was in the sense that neither had ever seen a sulky behind them before.

Here is an example of a restored 1957 Eclipse Estate.
