On my brand-new Honda HRX217VYA mower, the roto-stop button was popping up every few steps even though I was holding the blade lever securely to the mower handle.
Per Robert's suggestion, I unhooked the left side of the blade control lever from the lawn mower handle, and bent the blade control lever a few inches wider and then reinserted it. The blade control lever is the black handle marked "2" with an arrow -- the thing that you hold to keep the blade engaged, and the thing that you let go of to make the blade stop. From my perspective, the left side of the blade control lever is the side opposite of the roto stop control box. It is very simply hooked into the mower handle by it's own springiness and it is very simple to unhook the left side from the mower handle. Widening the blade control lever doesn't require much strength, and reinserting it is easy. After this simple procedure, the mower worked perfectly.
I hope this posting is easy to find for others with the same problem, and I hope I've made it easy to understand. I also hope someone with better forum skills will add a link to Robert's original suggestion. I am very thankful to Robert and this forum for showing the fix. This posting is just to make the fix as easy to find and as easy to understand as possible.
Cheers!
